This tower is the only one remaining in good condition that formed part of the old city wall. At the end of the 15th century, the second Count of Oliva, Serafín de Centelles, extended the town centre, giving it a new walled perimeter reinforced with towers. The 16th-century tower where the C/ Abadía and C/ Las Torres cross remains. The masonry tower, cylindrical in shape, is located in the part of the old city wall that sectioned off the main town from the pre-existing Morisco slums. From here, entry to the city was controlled by the archway, the Portal del Pi, which has since disappeared. |
